Sofia Gaer and Mikhail Markov at the start of FIDE World Cup for boys and girls in Batumi
The U8, U10 and U12 events will take place between June 22 and July 3

Sofia will participate in U12 girl’s tournament while Mikhail will face players in U8 category.
There will be about 300 participants from 37 countries. The competition is held in two stages. The first, which takes place in June 23-29, will comprise 2 Swiss system tournaments each one for 24 players with a similar rating. The second stage will pair two players from the two groups with the same standings. They will play a mini match consisting of 2 games (if no winner is concluded the two classical games will be followed by two rapid games and a “Sudden death” game to finish with).

The winner of the World cup is a person to win a match between the two best players in each group, the silver medal will be given to a runner-up while the bronze medal will be awarded to a winner of the match between the two players finishing second at the group stage.
