Lukhovitsy city day passed like a MIG taking off the ground

Sergey Karjakin performed a simultaneous game on the city day against the best players on August 17

15 players played in a simultaneous game against multiple world champion in the city park named after the Soviet hero and test pilot Ivan Vorobyev. Among them were sportsmen from the Lukhovitsy city district including David Baroyan, Arseniy Sukhoguzov, Anatoly Tarabukin, Ivan Shaverda, Dmitry Balakhin, Mikhail Tyutyunnik, Luka blum, Samvel Panian, Andrey Folerantov, Irina Sabirova and Vladimir Anoshin. Other participants were selected among the winners and prize winners of the open blitz tournament dedicated to the city day: Dmitry Konenkin, Alexey Zhukov (both from Zaraisk) and Mikhail Dulov (Kolomna) as well as Kirill Vishnyakov inveted by the organizers. The game lasted more than two hours. Dmitry Balakhin managed to make a single draw.

“All the players did well, it was hard to play. I was simply lucky in one game. I think that it is very important to develop chess around the country and Lukhovitsy is a good example. From the one side, the town is rather small, however, from the other side there are plenty of chess lovers in here and we had a real chess festival today. I wish this city prosperity and I do hope that Lukhovitsy will develop sports and chess in particular!” – shared his
thoughts the Moscow Region Chess Federation president Sergey Karjakin.

Sergey Karjakin visited Lukhovitsy after getting an invitation from the State Duma Moscow Region deputy born in the city Alexander Tolmachev.

“Sergey is our friend. He got on the pages of the Guiness record book at the age of 12 as the youngest grandmaster in the world and now came to Lukhovitsy to talk to young chess players. I hope that our chess talents will grow up like Sergey and will not only love chess but Russia as well. We all know that Sergey refused to play at international events without the Russian flag and proved he is a real patriot”.  

Chess in Lukhovitsy is showing an upgoing trend, mentioned the head of the district Sergey Timokhin in his welcome speech. Sergey Karjakin thanked his colleague for inviting him to the city and awarded him with an honorable medal «For sports development» on the district territory.

The tournament that took place before the simultaneous game included more than 50 sportsmen. Not only local people took place but also guests from Moscow, Ryazan and other cities of the Moscow Region: Zaraysk, Fryazino, Egoryevsk, Voskresensk, Electrostal, Ozery, Kolomna. The first prizes in their age groups were won by Semen Baryshnikov, Angelina Ustinovich, Yury Ivanov and Arseniy Sukhoguzov. The open tournament was dominated by Dmitry Konenkin, the silver medals were won by Alexey Zhukov while the bronze medal was won by Mikhail Dulov. Those three became the participants of the simultaneous game against Sergey Karjakin. The youngest participant of the tournament Irina Sabirova, born in 2019, also participated in the simultaneous game.

Sergey Karjakin also performed a traditional autograph session which also received a traditional warm welcome. The grandmaster also left a souvenir signature on the banner of his own chess club.

After the chess event Sergey Timokhin, Sergey Karjakin and Alexander Tolmachev greeted thousands of people in the park from the central stage of the city. Right after the speech Denis Maidanov came there. He is an author and a performer of patriotic songs as well as the State Duma deputy.

We would like to express gratitude for a wonderful organization of the event to Lukhovitsy deputy mayor Anna Shigina. Sergey Karjakin will offer his traditional signed chess board at the opening of his chess club in the city. It will become a good reason for him to come back to the city again!
