Sergey Karjakin shared his thoughts before the simultaneous game: “Chess history witnessed many cases when a strong player was offering a simultaneous game against a national team, but this time I will have to face the best players from two countries and Russian diplomats as well! This is my first experience of such kind. I am glad that this chess diplomacy project is developing actively and our events gather more and more people of chess fans every time!”

The Togolese Chess Federation president Abby Edah Ndjelle pointed out: “A simultaneous game against such a famous chess player like Sergey Karjakin is a great honour for the best players of our country. Such events not only bring joy but they teach a lot as well and we should study from the best ones! I will, without doubt, keep a close eye on the game of my fellow players and will support them. I do hope that our guys will hold their ground against this famous player!”

The Mozambique Chess Federation president Milton Botao said: “Our Russian friends and Sergey Karjakin in person have kept their word – they didn’t only organize a cool match with the Russian diplomats but also quickly set up a simultaneous game which will take place in a few days. For all of us summer has become a time of a real chess holiday and we will keep this wonderful event in our memoriy! A great thanks to Sergey Karjakin and his team!”
