Chess diplomacy in action
A new year chess tournament took place in the Russian Ministry of foreign affairs on December 24 under the auspices of the Moscow Region Chess Federation

The event was organized by the central office (department) and the chess club of the ministry with the support of the major production and support department and the Council of young diplomats. Our Federation provided the arbitrage (the tournament arbiter was FM Igor Kirillov) as well as the prizes including Sergey Karjakin’s books.
Among the participants were the employees from the ministry, Rossotrudnichestvo and other dependent bodies. The tournament was dominated by the councilor of the department responsible for the relations with the Federation subjects, parliament and non-governmental organizations D.V. Kostyuchenko, who won 7 games out of 7. The second place was taken by A.A. Yangel, interim section leader of the first department of CIS countries. The bronze medal was won by the third secretary of the African department V.D. Karasev.

Deputy director of the major support department Alexey Ivanov congratulated the chess club with a successful opening tournament. Honorable guests were also glad to praise the event. Among them were deputy executive director of the Moscow Region Chess Federation Shamil Mansurov and Gosleague and Rosleague major organizer Igor Kravchenkov.
The chairwoman of the Council of young diplomats Ekaterina Akopyan awarded the participants with prizes and souvenirs and shared her ambitious plans for 2025, including the organization of international competitions.
