Diplomat’s Day was celebrated with internal online chess tournament of the ministry of foreign affairs “The Opening Cup”

A multiple world champion, Russian senator and the president of the Moscow Region Chess Federation Sergey Karjakin greeted the players.
The opening ceremony was also attended by another Russian senator Boris Khachirov, the leader of the project “Sergey Karjakin’s chess clubs and executive director of the Moscow Region Chess Federation Albert Minnullin accompanied by the chairwoman of the Council of young diplomats Ekaterina Akopyan.

The event who had an outstanding coverage of different bodies within the ministry, united more than 60 representatives of territory and functional departments of the central office, other organizations of the ministry and Russian diplomatic offices abroad.

The tournament was won by the staff department councilor V.A. Ilyasov, who has long been leader of the chess team of the ministry. The silver medal was won by the senior councilor of mass media department R.R. Rakshaev while V.V. Petrachev who is a specialist in the service department won the bronze medal.

The key event of the day was Sergey Karjakin’s simultaneous game against the participants of the tournament who were in the central playing hall of the main ministry building.
The tournament was organized by the chess club of the ministry and by the Council of young diplomats, major information service department and the Moscow Region Chess Federation.
