Asia plays in Tula

On October 2, the 20th Asian School Chess Championship opened in the village of Bunyrevo, Tula Oblast. This is a historic event for the region –Tula Oblast is hosting a tournament of this scale for the first time!

Key facts:
• Dates: October 1–11
• Venue: Park-Hotel “Shakhter” (Bunyrevo village)

Participants: Over 300 young chess players aged 7 to 17 from 12 countries: India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and, of course, Russia.

Age categories: Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17 years (separate for boys and girls)

Formats: Classical chess (9 rounds, October 2-8), Rapid (October 9-10), and Blitz (October 10)

Guests of the opening ceremony included multiple world champion and President of the Moscow Region Chess Federation Sergey Karjakin, as well as the MRCF Executive Director Albert Minnullin.

An extensive program has been prepared for participants – including an exhibition by the RCF Chess Museum, a picture gallery, interactive activities, and guided tours of Tula Oblast’s major museums, such as Yasnaya Polyana and Polenovo.

Tula Oblast Governor Dmitry Milyaev noted: “Hosting competitions of this level is a great responsibility and an honor. We will do everything to ensure the tournament is organized at the highest level.”
