On September 28 the chess club situated on the Tverskoy boulevard saw the end of the men’s and women’s Moscow team championship. 14 teams played 9 round of the Swiss system tournament. The regulation allowed teams to use the help of players from the other regions so some of the Moscow teams invited players from the Moscow Region to play.
M. M. Botvinnik chess school team won the tournament. Among the other players of this team was the grandmaster from the Moscow Region Alexey Khruschev. The silver medals were won by “Temus team” and its captain Ivan Eletsky. The third place was won by “Vostok” chess school, among whose forwards were GM Ernesto Inarkiev and GM Vladimir Potkin, the leading coach of the Moscow Region team.

WIM Ekaterina Smirnova played very well, representing “Chess formula” team. Ekaterina scored 6 points out of 7 and showed a stunning performance of 2383, just 1 point behind the open tournament bronze winner (the tournament included three prizes for the best performance) and added 44 Elo points. It is worth mentioning that Ekaterina had to play 6 black games due to pairings coincidence and only played white in round 7.
