Ekaterina Smirnova took first place in the women’s standings at Gazi Open
On September 6, a major international chess festival concluded in Gaziantep
A total of 81 chess players from 16 countries, including two Russians, competed in Tournament “A”. The composition of the tournament proved to be remarkably strong, with 50 participants holding international titles.
Grandmaster Vugar Rasulov of Azerbaijan, who held the lead throughout the entire event, claimed tournament victory. Swedish Grandmaster Vitaly Sivuk took second place. Third place went to 14-year-old FIDE Master Baver Yilmaz from Turkey, who fulfilled his International Master norm well ahead of expectations!
International Master Ekaterina Smirnova from the Moscow Region showed a standout performance. Scoring 5.5 points out of 9, she finished 16th in the overall standings, took first place among women, and gained 33 rating points.
