Just recently, a large delegation from the Moscow Region Chess Federation returned from the Asian Championship in Bangkok and a new significant event has already occurred in Russian-Thai chess cooperation.

At “Diplomat,” where children study under the Russian educational program, chess equipment was delivered with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian Embassy in Thailand, along with a specialized set with the autograph of Sergey Karjakin.

Club students will have a unique opportunity to train online with leading coaches in Russian and foreign languages, participate in tournaments and workshops. A selection system for the strongest players will also be developed, with the possibility of inviting them to Russia for final stages of competitions and key events. Next year, at least four international tournaments are already planned, including “Chess Shift,” “Move of Victory,” “Power of Russia,” and “Chess Game of Unity.”

“The opening of Sergey Karjakin Chess Club in Thailand demonstrates how important a role chess spaces play in modern educational and cultural dialogue. Chess clubs create an environment where children learn strategic thinking, responsibility for decisions, respect for opponents and working under intellectual challenges”, — highlighted Alexander Sidorov, representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Thailand.

Almost two years ago, the delegation from the Kingdom of Thailand participated in the Open Superfinal of the Moscow Region Rapid Chess Championship and walked around Red Square.

We recall that cooperation between the Moscow Region Chess Federation and the Chess Association of the Kingdom of Thailand began in February 2024, when the delegation of Thai chess players led by the Association President Sahapol Nakvanich participated in the Open Superfinal of the Moscow Region Championship.

On June 20 this year, Sergey Karjakin held an online simultaneous exhibition for Thailand’s top juniors.

In September, chess players from the distant kingdom, led by Sahapol Nakvanich, visited Moscow for the second time to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Moscow Region Chess Federation and then participate in the first Buddhist Chess Tournament  «Spirit of Dharma» in Elista.

In November, Thailand Chess Association kindly invited the Moscow Region Chess Federation delegation to the Asian Youth Championship, where our chess players not only won medals, but also met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand Evgeny Tomikhin.
