The opening ceremony was proceeded by the Moscow Region Chess Federation vice-president Oleg Anikanov and “Avangard” stadium director Vladimir Redkin. Sergey Karjakin could not attend the beginning of the competition due to a serious reason as at this very moment the MRCF president was fighting Alexey Dreev at the international chess forum Moscow Open but in the evening the multiple world champion managed to compensate his absence in the morning.

It has become a tradition that at Sergey Karjakin’s Cup a line to get an autograph doesn’t only require a signature by the world champion himself but people also want to have their books signed by special guests of the event. This time it was the turn of two-times blitz world champion Valentina Gunina. She signed “Magic chess of Valentina Gunina”.
