Ekaterina Smirnova сlaimed top spot in the women’s category at the Malatya Open

On August 29, the 9th Malatya Golden Apricot International Open Chess Tournament wrapped up in the “apricot city”

The Turkish city of Malatya is not only a global leader in apricot cultivation, but it has also been hosting a major international chess tournament for nine consecutive years. This year, 67 chess players representing nine countries competed in “A” tournament.

In the overall standings, Iranian players swept the entire podium. The 16-year-old Arshia Alaghehmand achieved a convincing victory, starting with a 6 out of 6 score and securing three draws to finish the event. Second place went to International Master Amirreza Pour Agha Bala, while 14-year-old Ali Zeynali took third.

In the women’s category, WIM Ekaterina Smirnova from the Moscow Region took first place.
