Ekaterina Smirnova claimed third women’s prize at the Kapadokya Open
On August 23, the major chess festival, the 2nd Kapadokya International Open Chess Tournament, concluded in Ürgüp, Turkey

More than 900 chess players representing 24 countries competed across four tournaments (A, B, C, and D).
Iranian IM Amirreza Pour Agha Bala triumphed in the main “A” tournament. Second place went to IM Almas Rakhmatullaev of Uzbekistan. Russian WIM Olga Karmanova finished third overall and claimed the top spot in the women’s standings. Olga had a phenomenal tournament, comfortably securing her final Woman Grandmaster (WGM) norm, alongside an International Master (IM) norm! IM Gulnar Mammadova of Azerbaijan finished second among women, while third place was awarded to WIM Ekaterina Smirnova from Balashikha, Moscow Region.
