The day’s program was very eventful: at 8 AM, the rapid chess competitions began, followed by the blitz tournament, and in the evening, the championship’s grand closing ceremony commenced. It’s worth noting that Russian chess player Anna Zhurova achieved a confident victory in the women’s rapid tournament.

Many distinguished guests attended the closing ceremony, among whom were Governor of the province of Misamis Occidental Henry S. Oaminal  and the legendary Filipino Grandmaster Eugenio Torre.

During the ceremony, all participants received tournament-themed t-shirts as gifts, and foreign guests also received small presents from the Governor.

Awards were presented to the winner of the women’s tournament Evgenija Ovod; the winner of the rapid chess tournament and bronze medalist of the classical tournament Anna Zhurova; and Ekaterina Smirnova, who took the fifth prize place in the classical discipline.

But it wasn’t only the Filipino hosts who presented awards to the Russians! Evgenija Ovod’s husband, International Master Miroslav Vlasenko, brought from distant Russia and solemnly presented the Vice-President of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines Jason Gonzales, with the well-deserved cup for his team’s victory in the first stage of the “Asian League”.

As a reminder, on October 19th, the Philippine team won the first stage of the international online tournament series “Asian League,” launched as part of the large-scale project “Chess Diplomacy.” Seven teams participated in the competition, six of which represented Asian federations.

The second stage of the “Asian League” will take place on November 30th at 4:00 PM Moscow time. We invite everyone to follow the new international chess battles!
