Ekaterina Smirnova won the first women’s prize at Russian Grand Prix leg in Chelyabinsk

“Chelyabinsk city manager Cup” 2025 took place on October 4 in the Ural’s chess capital in Vidgof Grand hotel. More than 100 chess players from 15 Russian regions took place in the event.

WIM Ekaterina Smirnova representing Balashikha showed best women’s performance, having scored 7 points out of 13 and added 20 rating points to her current rating. FM Svyatoslav Lisenkov scored 9 points and finished 6-th, which allowed him to become a prize winner of the open tournament. Leonid Varankin performed well as well, winning 7.5 points and adding 74 record points to his rating.

Andrey Akhtariev (the Sverdlovsk Region) won the tournament. The silver medal was won by IM Alexander Gutenev (the Chelyabinsk Region), while the bronze medal went to IM Artem Pingin (the Sverdlovsk Region).

The rapid tournament “Ural maximum” 2025 will start in Chelyabinsk tomorrow. The event is dedicated to the memory of Maxim Shusharin.
