The Russian team will participate in the U16 World chess Olympiad which will take place from August 16 till August 23 in Barranquilla, Colombia

This will be the first time our team participates in such competition, however under FIDE flag. Board 1 will be occupied by the youngest ever Russian GM Ivan Zemlyanskiy, representing the Moscow Region. Board 2 will be represented by Savva Vetokhin. Board 3 will be occupied by another GM – Artem Uskov. The last board will be represented by WGM Anna Shukhman. Evgeny Tomashevsky was appointed team captain whil Alexander Ryazantsev will act as a coach.

It is important to note that the tournament is organized by a friendly Colombian Chess Federation. In the end of May this year the president of this federation Weimar Munoz visited Moscow on the invitation of the MRCF and signed a Memorandum with the federation president Sergey Karjakin.

The Olympiad will include 9 rounds (Swiss system. The main rivals of our team are national teams from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Italy and India. The start of Round 1 is at 00:00 on August 18.
